Design by Bert Cohen and Herb Geiger , program features numerous essays (by festival producer George Wein, Charles Graham and George Frazier), ads (Atlantic Records, Schlitz Beer, McDonald's, Rolling Stone and more) photos, bios, etc.. Thias edition of the annual event featured performances by an amalgam of rock, blues and jazz artists, among them: George Benson, Sunny Murray, Phil Woods, Kenny Burrell, Young-Holt Unlimited, Anita O'Day, Freddy Hubbard, Bill Evans and Jeremy Steig, Sun Ra and Space Arkestra, an all-star jam session, Steve Marcus, Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Jeff Beck, the Newport All-Stars with Mavis Rivers, Miles Davis, John Mayall, Gary Burton, the Mothers of Invention with Frank Zappa, Art Blakey, Savage Rose, Dave Brubeck Trio featuring Gerry Mulligan, World's Greatest Jazz Band with Maxine Sullivan and Stephane Grapelli, O. C. Smith, Sly & the Family Stone, James Brown with Nipsey Russell, Illinois State Band, Willie Bobo, B. B. King, Johnny Winter, Herbie Hancock, Buddy Rich Orchestra and Led Zeppelin. Thick stock book (contents feature multiple paper stocks) is in good/very good (B to B/B+) condition; light to moderate surface wear on the front and back covers (slight water staining), some spine wear (rusty staples), otherwise fine and completely intact. Very scarce program from an event that turned into somewhat of a disorganized fiasco; George Wein and the city of Newport were not prepared for the sea of rock fans that descended into the town that 4th of July weekend, causing numerous problems. Wein drastically reduced the amount of rock bands he would include in future events, specifically because of the problems they caused.
